Wow these Apple rumors are getting out of control! They haven’t even announced a new event let alone a new product. I wonder if even half of this is close to the truth? But there are a lot of specifics.
I also wonder how the recent Foxconn controversy will affect said release date. Concerns over US jobs and factory conditions in China have brought a swirl of ethical and economic issues to the forefront. In the end Apple and the rest of us have to care about the human beings more than the products or profits. And I say this as I’m writing these words on an iPhone 4s I got with a gift card for selling my old iPhone back to the reuse/recycle program.
I’ve already said I wish Apple would move some manufacturing back here. But of course that’s not the answer to difficulties in China. Some say Apple isn’t the only company using these plants and is the best at pushing for reforms. Others say its unrealistic to think manufacturing jobs will come back due to supply chain logistics. But I wonder if recent disasters and flooding “logistics” kind of balance these out. Maybe human rights issues wipe out that logic altogether.
So should we swear off our devices? Is Apple the devil? How should Christians respond to these issues? Let me know in the comments below…
